It’s no secret that animals can help humans feel calmer, safer, and less alone. But for neurodivergent people, like me and my kids, animals aren’t just cute companions. They’re often essential for:

He’s still playful and full of personality, but as he’s gotten older, he’s also become an expert at finding puddles of sunshine and snuggling into long cuddles in the arms of his girl. In our family, we chose cats because I’m unable to walk a dog daily. Even on my low-energy days, I can still give a cat the attention and affection they need. We also aren’t early risers, so the idea of getting up at dawn to take a dog outside just isn’t sustainable for us long-term. Cats fit our lifestyle. They’re independent, gentle, and happy to soak up love whenever we’re able to give it.
