When I Became Her Mother

In that first moment of motherhood, something in me shifted. Every scar I carried started to look like a map I didn’t want her to follow. As she grew, I saw pieces of myself in her, and glimpses of who she might become, all at once.

Motherhood slowly, sometimes painfully, made me relearn softness. She watched everything even more closely than she listened to my words. Having a daughter was both terrifying and sacred. It made me want to protect her from everything and, at the same time, light the whole world on fire so she could walk through it unburned.

Now when I look at her, I see strength, confidence, and independence. She’s not my little girl anymore, but is becoming her own person.

I’m starting to realize that being a woman is a constant evolution. It reminds me how much I miss my mom, and how deeply I wish she were here to guide me through this new phase.
